Prevention & Treatment of Norovirus

There is hardly any medicinal treatment available for patients suffering from Norovirus. There is no known antiviral or antibiotic, which can kill or treat Norovirus. Rather, it is advised not to take any antibiotic since it may have adverse effect on the patient. One should take plenty of drinking water to avoid dehydration and take rest in Norovirus illness.

Since dehydration to be avoided at any cost and nutrients to be provided to a Norovirus patient in addition to ordinary drinking water, fruit juices are recommended. People suffering from this illness, should not drink milk. Milk may cause other gastrointestinal problems like stomach cramps and diarrhea and for patient milk may be difficult to digest. It is suggested by Doctor’s to take dehydration drink which are cheap and available in medical stores and can also be prepared by adding table sugar (8 teaspoons), table salt (1/2 teaspoons), slight salt i.e. potassium chloride (1/3 teaspoons) and baking soda (1/2teaspoon) to one liter of water.

All said and done about Norovirus treatment, it is of paramount importance that proper preventive measures must be taken to eradicate the occurrences which otherwise may turn out to be life threatening. The preventive measures are:
